Celebrities and Snow

The Sundance Film Festival is going on in Park City, Utah.  Every year, the last 2 weeks of January, the quaint ski town hosts Hollywood royalty at the highly acclaimed film festival.

If you love films, particularly avant garde films, Sundance is for you.  Each year tickets are available on the Festival website ranging from single films to complete “all access” passes.  Opening and closing weekend is your best time to spot celebrities but some are there throughout the run of the Festival.  Their new mobile app will let you keep up with all the Festival news.

Locals refer to the film people as “PIB”s – “People in Black”.  They sport black turtlenecks, designer jeans and sunglasses – so stereotypical – even at night!

If you want to go, book your room early.  Hotel rooms are scarce these 2 weeks.  Same goes for dinner reservations.  Without a reservation, the wait for a table can be several hours.

Don’t bother renting a car – parking is also at a premium.  Use the various shuttle services to get to and from Park City then the city transportation once there.  The desk at the Salt Lake City airport can help you arrange transportation.

There are also other activities to enjoy from snowmobiling,  cross-country skiing,  snowshoeing,  tubing, ice skating, horse drawn carriage rides with dinner in the mountains, hot-air balloon rides, spa treatments and of course, shopping.

The good news, if you also happen to ski – the slopes are virtually empty!  Most of the people who come to Park City these two weeks are there for the films leaving the powder to the rest of us!
